Why no mention of forum or groups in community tools. Do they have a role?

Nick, thanks for your question from our Cisco seminar.  It is a great question and a well observed point.  The simple answer is that we focus on the creation of niche groups on the web and forums simply demand volume that the niche sites do not have.  There is nothing worse that going to a site where the forum is stale and empty and the tumbleweed is visably rolling through. The question is large, probably too large for a short answer here, especially as they are quite different things.  However, taking the question literally here are our thoughts on setting these things up.BLOGS1) Be clear on what you are going to blog about if you are using the tool as an external facing communications platform.2) Be clear on the reasons for introducing blogging to your company if you are using it as a internal communications platform.3) Decide on the platform that is right for you. If you are looking at it as an external communications tool, why not consider the "free platforms"...
