Collaborative tools do take some getting used to

We had a fascinating experience with regard to people using our wiki tool. We have opened it up to the 3 external user groups (clients and partners) over the past couple of months to let them play in a collaborative environment. In each case we have given a very limited explanation and sat back to watch. In the latest case a group of lets say 30+ something used it to aggregate what they wanted to get out of a workshop with us. Condor, Peter Gloor's, inspired concept for monitoring the pulse of the web and delivering to us a prediction model that we can all understand, makes for an exciting read. Its simplicity at a conceptual level highlights the latent power of listening to the language of the web. Corporate benefits of facebook

A recent Computing magazine article made the case for Facebook in the Enterprise. As well as the usual points around digital natives expecting to use these tools as business communication applications, Mark Samuels adds one I hadn't thought about until now - Storage Space.The argument goes that instead of storing personal messages and photos on corporate systems, employees should be encouraged to place them on Facebook. I have certainly worked in organisations where entire file servers are dedicated to sharing mp3 files (although I don't think Facebook would be too happy if it's services were used to share illegal files)...
